And I never bothered to update with any photos of her (or of anything else for that matter). Right out of the box, she was gorgeous; I was actually kind of pleased that her hair didn't end up as red as a Rouge Noir's, but rather it's a little more natural. I didn't worry about customization so much, but I did have to open her head in order to do the boggle and gaze lift. Opening an RBL head was SO EASY; it kind of makes me want to buy another one just to take apart. I'm not letting myself do that until I finish the reroot I've been working on for the past 6 months...let me just add here that working with curly nylon is kind of a pain in the ass.
So here is my Friendly Freckles, Makenna. She features chip changes, boggle, gaze lift and new eyelashes. I also did some work on her hair. I think she's just lovely. :-)
Well today the sketch has been released and I have a new doll to be obsessed with. The past couple times I have trusted a promo illustration, I have been a very happy camper in the end, so I have very high hopes for this beauty. I love the LOOOOOONG hair with the bangs. I don't have a girl in my family yet whose hair is done that way (the color looks like it might be similar to my Keeley's which I adore). And that outfit. OMG. The skulls...the bats in her hair...the boots! All of it looks absolutely phenomenal. And with my rent reduced to what it is and the promise of some extra money for my upcoming birthday, coupled with the fact that I just sold my video camera to a friend...I might just have the money for her! Unfortunately (well FORTUNATELY, but money-wise unfortunately) I am also going on vacation to Vegas at the end of March so I will have to be as smart with my funds as possible. Damn you Takara and your Limited Edition girls! (Not like that has ever really stopped me before.)
Ohhhhh god I love her and I don't even need actual photos of her to know it. I must find out when she actually goes on sale....
For the past month or more I have been trying to decide on the new B that I would be buying myself for Christmas (with a little help from Christmas money, etc.). Anyway...last week the decision was abruptly made when I just happened to sign on to Ebay just before bedtime and was browsing through the Kenner Blythes like I normally do. At the bottom of the list there was a brand new entry...one with a BIN that was lower than any I had seen in a REALLY long time.
I clicked the link for the doll and to my surprise she looked to be in REALLY good shape. I read the description of her and figured that someone would swipe her before I was done, but when I hit refresh the auction was still there. I hesistated for maybe a half second before clicking the Buy It Now tab and she was mine. I spent maybe the next 10 minutes staring blankly at the wall, totally in shock at what had just happened.
This was on Tuesday. On Saturday I returned from the gym to find the postman standing on my porch. I figured he would have the package containing my Star Dancer with him, but when I signed the form, he handed me not one, but TWO packages. I was literally shaking with excitement and I brought the boxes inside with me.
I deboxed Gaea first since I was pretty sure the contents of the second box would have me preoccupied for quite some time. I was right.
I feel a little odd that I would become so emotional over something that is a material object, but my new Kenner, Eden, really is quite an amazing sight. As we know, KB's in good shape can be hard to come by, especially on Ebay, but she is in absolutely wonderful condition. She is missing most of her lip paint, has that pesky Kenner "butt crack", and had just a touch of jaundice, which was mostly taken care of with a very light sanding. Her hair plugs, eyelashes and original eye makeup is completely in tact. She's not chewed or pin-pricked. Her legs click twice and stay in position. She completely surpasses what I was expecting to find in a KB...I am still in total awe of her.
You have no idea how hard it was to keep my mouth shut about this until today, but I wanted to get some proper pics to introduce her with! Since Eden and Gaea arrived at the exact same time, I like to think of them as best friends now. :-) It must be nice to come into a new home with another new girl to hang out with too!!
Today was DEFINITELY a good day. I had received a notification in the mail yesterday that a package was waiting for me at the post office; a beautiful knitted sweater by caroli (amimono pop). The sweater was meant to be a welcome home gift for the girl that I pre-ordered a hundred and five years ago (ok so it was the beginning of November) and now all I needed was the girl herself!
I came home from the gym to find the postman standing on my porch. "I LIVE THERE!!" I shouted out the window of my car. He handed me a paper to sign and then a box. FINALLY!!! I rushed inside with my package, eager to free the poor girl trapped inside.
One thing that is really wonderful about this girl is her hair. It's SO soft and not too thick, making it very manageable. Her makeup is very pretty as well. I thought she was supposed to be semi-matte, which she definitely is not at all, but I don't think it detracts from her beauty one bit. (Although I have seen a couple Star Dancers that have been matted and they look really phenomenal. I'm not sure that I would go that route though since I do like her stock makeup.)
I got her all dressed in her welcome home outfit and she seems to be fitting in marvelously with the rest of the girls.
Hey all! I figured since I don't have my Blythe MySpace anymore (the jerks over there decided to randomly delete it right out from under my nose a couple months ago without any warning at all) that I'd start a new blog over here to help me decide who my new Blythe for the 2006 Christmas season will be. Last year I was trying to decide between Bohemian Beats Again, Tweedly Do, V-Smash and Cinnamon Girl.
I ended up receiving my sweet little BBA, Helen, from my boyfriend. She has since received a sandmatting, 4 new sets of Brainworm chips and new eyelashes and I think she is one of the prettiest girls in the family.
Luckily for me, I received a small Christmas bonus from my job as well so I was also able to afford Olivia, my Tweedly Do. Eventually I picked up a Cinnamon Girl, but never ended up getting a Smash, although I still do think she is beautiful. So after a wonderful, Blythe-filled Christmas in 2005, I am hoping to pick up another new girl for the holidays this year.
Soooo without further ado, here are my choices for Christmas 2006. I am just about 100% positive it will only be one girl for me this year, since all the candidates are significantly more expensive than the ones that I had in mind for last year. I can pretty much assure that at least one of these girls, if not two, is going to have to be purchased used in order for me to afford her. I also have names picked out for each of them already, even though they aren't part of my family yet. I don't know why exactly I do it that way...most people have to see the doll first before naming her...but when I get a good name stuck in my head for any given B, that's how I know that I REALLY want her. All my girls thus far have been pre-named.
All Gold in One (aka Goldie): Should she join my family, her name will most likely be Esther. I have wanted a Goldie ever since I saw my first one in person (I was never too keen on her in photographs). She belongs to my friend Amber and I could hardly put her down. I haven't gotten her yet since it's really hard to find her for less than a small fortune. If I get her, she will have to be nude I'm sure. I'd actually prefer her that way since her stock outfit does absolutely nothing for me aside from reminding me of Elton John.
Rouge Noir: Should this beauty join my family, her name will be Mae Day. I have been wanting a RN pretty much FOREVER. Problem is, whenever one would come up on Ebay or in TIB Buy and Sell, she was always over my budget at the time (or else I was just totally broke). I have almost won her something like 3 times already, but it just never happened. When I first started making my decision on who I wanted for Christmas this year, she was number one on the list and was still a strong front runner until about 2 weeks ago when this next girl came along...
Last Kiss: Probably the most affordable at this point (I've been resisting her BIN prices for the past week or so KNOWING that I am not in any position to be purchasing another dolly right now), this beautiful new RBL girl has completely stolen my heart. Should I get her, her name will be Aurora (Rory for short). For the most part, this whole decision is really between her and RN since I'm afraid that Goldie will be to be too expensive for anyone I know to get me. And honestly if I'm going to go the Goldie route, I might as well put Rosie on this list too, since I have always wanted her just as badly, if not worse. (When she arrives and my family will be complete with all of these, outside of the KB that I've always dreamed of.)
Anyway..hopefully I will be able to obtain one of these incredible beauties for the holidays. I still have my new girl slated to arrive in the beginning of December and I feel like seeing the new mold for myself will just make me love it even more. I honestly thought my dolly purchasing days had almost come to a close before they started producing RBLs; my wish list had become so short. Now, with the promise of several more newbies to be released before the holidays even get here, who knows...this Christmas want list might lengthen at any time.
Any advice or comments to help me make up my mind would be GREATLY appreciated!!
I was just messing around yesterday on Evilbay and thought it would be fun to put a bid in for a pre-order on the new Star Dancer. I really liked the concept of her when it she was introduced...the outfit looks totally necessary and I like the tan skin and ash blonde hair idea. I thought my wallet would be relatively safe though until I found out that she is in fact supposed to be an RBL girl!!! Since Darling Diva and Last Kiss seem to be way out of my price range, I was hoping that I would come across one of these new girls at a decent price. Apparently Star Dancer is supposed to be a limited girl as well, but when I saw the relatively low bids on her, I had to take a shot.
Anyway, my bid actually won! I didn't think it would and I am not really prepared for a new dolly at this point (not like it's not going to take her a month or more to get to me anyway) and I've never even considered purchasing a doll based off the drawing alone, so I am hoping she will be totally gorgeous. So far the new face mold reminds me so much of a Kenner in so many ways that I am pretty confident that I will totally love her. The fact that she is supposed to be sort of half-matted is absolutely tops in my book. I've accidentally won auctions before in the past and it left me feeling a little freaked out over the money lost, but I literally squeeked when I saw that I had won this girl today.
I am planning on naming her Gaea (Gay-eh)...another name for Mother Earth, since she seems to be sort of hippie-ish. I can't wait to see some actual pics of her and more importantly I cannot wait for her to get to my house!! The auction said I should be expecting her in about a month...ohhhh man the wait is going to kill me!! SO SO SO EXCITED!!!
Edit: So the promo pic was released today. From what I can see here (this particular outfit) I am COMPLETELY happy with my purchase. The poncho and hat from the other promo pic aren't so much my style, but then again you can't really tell much from these photos most of the time. And what the hell is up with all these poor girls and their bed head in the promo shots? Her earrings look fab. I might have to borrow them. Hahaha!
I am SO excited!!! I just finished my fourth rerooted girl and she came out EXACTLY how I wanted her to. I just love it when things go as planned. She was originally my Cinnamon Girl, Claire, but that name seriously doesn't suit her new look so now she is known as Fallon.
I sort of felt bad about changing her...stock CG's really are beautiful, but there was something about her that I could just never fully bond with. I toyed with the idea of selling her for a little while, but then figured that since I got her for such a great price (MIB with all her stuff for like $100) and since I had been wanting to customize an EBL girl for quite some time, I might as well use her as my guinea pig.
She was
sandmatted, her eyechips and lashes were changed (brainworm chips in gray milk, charcoal, milk tea and some blue color that I can't remember the name of), she was boggled and
her eyelids have been painted blue, repainted lips and of course a full saran reroot
in black orchid. I really wish I had had better lighting to take these photos because her skin tone, although toned down because of the sandmatting, really looks pretty stunning with the black hair.
I definilely think I made the right choice. I am absolutely smitten with her now and unfortunately addicted to taking apart EBL girls. The reroot went SO much faster this time; I realized a little too late that the EBL scalp appears to have fewer holes and I overpurchased on saran. I still have a large skein and a half of black orchid if anyone knows anyone who wants to buy it off me.
There are two girls in my current B family who are now in line for make-overs and then hopefully I'll be able to purchase another EBL at a good price to take apart again. (I don't think I will be able to take any of my current girls apart...they are all too perfect the way they are!)
And by the way...BIG thanks to Blair for the skeleton dress!! I think it's perfect for my spooky girl!
